Strategic Planning
Strategic Planning is best defined as developing a roadmap
to guide your business from where you are now to where
you want to be. Sounds simple enough, but many businesses
find it a daunting and difficult task. That's where
we come in. Our experts help you navigate the course,
overcome roadblocks, and identify opportunities to develop
the best and most effective path to success.
Our Approach
Our job is to help you define a realistic,
unique and valuable long-term competitive niche, different
than your competitors. We go back to the basics by
asking:
- Why are you in business?
- What business are you in?
- What is your unique value proposition?
- What do you want to accomplish regarding strategic
goals and objectives?
- How do you measure success?
Your Situation
We take a fresh look at your organization's
current situation by analyzing it from the perspective
of your key stakeholders: competitors, shareholders,
customers, employees, finances, products and/or services,
and suppliers.
Target Destination - Where You Want to Go
What Yogi Berra said is true-"If you
don't know where you are going, you're liable to end
up someplace else." That's why we help your leadership
team clearly articulate the organization's Mission,
Vision and Values. We work hand in hand with you to
develop strategic goals and objectives using a SWOT
analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats).
We then determine the planning horizon that makes
sense for your business. And finally, we determine
strategic initiatives to close the gap between where
you are today and where you want to be at the end
of the planning horizon.
Your Action Plan
A great strategic plan must be focused
in direction, workable in execution, and measurable
in progress. We help your senior leadership and other
key staff get down to the brass tacks of putting together
a great strategic plan. The end result for you is
a highly effective and realistic Strategic Map that
closes the gap between "Today's Reality" and "Tomorrow's
Vision." We concentrate on four Key Strategic Areas:
Customer Focus, Financial Stability, Operational Excellence
and People Development.

Implementation Approach
Chenoweth & Associates helps
you develop the most innovative and effective tactical
solutions to enhance the delivery of your products
and services to your customers. We work with you to
identify specific strategic initiatives and determine
exactly how those initiatives will be accomplished
- Focusing your organization on the key activities
vital to your success
- Developing an ongoing involvement and communication
plan to align your organization around those activities
- Implementing them using project management and
change management tools
- Monitoring results to improve based on actual
experience
- Bottom line: Achieving real, sustainable results
Process
We blend the expertise of individuals
involved in developing the strategic plan with those
ultimately responsible for delivery it. For each strategic
initiative, we develop detailed project plans, including
activity timelines and measurements for success.
Every strategic planning project is looked at from two
critical perspectives:
(1) Tangibles: Project purpose, logistics and
tactics including creation of a "Work Breakdown Structure"
combined with a timeline, key milestone dates and deliverables,
and budget.
(2)Transformations: Including eight change management
categories:
- Creating the case for change (leadership's responsibility)
- Clear expectations on behaviors required for success
going forward
- Involvement - as many people as possible through
direct work on projects, focus groups and surveys
- Communication - ongoing and consistent about why
the changes are necessary and what they mean to
everyone in the organization
- Training and Education on new skills required
to be successful
- Role Models on new behaviors starting with upper
level management
- Reinforcement - Reward and Recognition systems
that support the new way of doing things
- Interventions, i.e. consequences, if people do
not follow the new way of doing things. Interventions,
however, are a last resort only after all previous
steps have been accomplished.
Follow Through We
then determine as a group the "scorecard" to monitor
progress for each strategic initiative. Who will report
results to whom, in what timeframe and what format?
If projects are not proceeding in accordance with the
original plans, we help define the process to make "course
corrections."
Top Strategic
Sourcing Did you know that
by lowering your outside purchasing by only 10% that
you could increase profitability from 20% to 60%? It's
true. Better management of your supply chain can have
a dramatic impact on your bottom line. Through Strategic
Sourcing, we help you not only reduce the total cost
of products and services from outside vendors but increase
the quality of those products and services simultaneously.
Our experience indicates that Strategic Sourcing initiatives
typically save 10% to 12% of total spending over a three-
to four-year period. Few, if any, other activities you
undertake have this same bottom line result.
Our Approach From A to Z
- We assess your current procurement situation; identify
your organization's core competencies, and determine
which processes should be outsourced or stay inside.
- We help you determine logical "product families"
for purchases, and identify "tiers" of critical and
non-critical suppliers; we show you how to create
relationships with the suppliers most critical to
your success.
- We analyze whether your procurement policies hinder
or help transactions between you and your suppliers,
and plan accordingly. We also determine the degree
to which suppliers are empowered to make decisions
on your behalf, and plan accordingly.
- We help you change transformation levers to reinforce
improvements, e.g., reward and recognition systems,
leadership role modeling, communication, etc.
And here's the bottom line: Our experience
shows that Strategic Sourcing projects typically pay
for themselves in less than one year!
